Proximity marketing concerns communication with the customers keeping the right place at the right time, and with extremely relevant and personalized messages on their smartphones. Legacy advertisements on televisions, billboards, and radio deliver the appeal but lack the impulse to avail of an offer or try a new product.
Digital technology as beacons bridges the gap betwixt offline and online. Proximity marketing lets the businesses and brands send text messages with the location to mobiles in proximity to a Bluetooth network.

Proximity marketing solutions: Advanced technologies that allow proximity marketing to happen are Bluetooth beacons, NFC (near field communication), RFID (radio frequency identification), and WiFi.
Proximity marketing through Bluetooth beacons: Bluetooth beacons are the chief proximity marketing technology. Per the Proximity Directory Report Q4 2017, 86 percent of the proximity sensors deployed worldwide are beacons. Beacons are furnished with Bluetooth low energy and low energy transmitters to deliver relevant notifications to nearby smartphones.
Proximity marketing with NFC-based systems: NFC is allowed to accomplish highly secure payments and applications. NFC works as QR codes as users have to initiate the connection. Today's smartphones come with NFC chips embedded in them. It enables customers to pay by tapping smartphones against NFC-allowed devices. Users have to bring the phones to the NFC transmitter to receive messages.
Proximity marketing with WiFi-based systems: Marketers now employ WiFi connections to send notifications to the customers. Also, WiFi hosting websites transmit location-specific content to the customers' browsers.
Proximity marketing with RFID-based systems: RFID tags track stored product movement and inventory. The tag is the same as the barcode scanners used in the retail stores only, except that RFID needs the object and the scanner to be in sight. The RFID tags, called semi-passive tags, have their power supply to activate themselves, but they depend on the reader's power supply to transmit data.
One of the greatest strengths of proximity marketing is its ability to deliver the right message, to the right user, at the right time. As a result, it is gaining popularity among the leading technological companies.
